Anel Botha matriculated from Wesvalia High School in December 2004. During October 2004, she entered the North West School of Design, Annual “Design your Future” Bursary Competition. At the Graduation Fashion Show of the North West School of Design, her designs, “Monopoly” and “Playing with Fire” astounded the audience and she walked away with the bursary to study Clothing Design and Technology. The two designs, received coverage in the local newspapers.
In March 2006, Anel Botha (then second year student) got selected as nationwide Bridal Africa semi-finalist in the Avant Garde / Evening Wear category. In the same year, at the 2006 Graduation Fashion Show, she walked away with the honours, “Designer of the Year 2006”. This accolade gets presented to the student who excelled in all aspects of the Graduation Fashion Show.
After completion of her studies, she went to complete an internship, at Parys-based designer, Michael Bezuidenhout as one of her prizes that she won on her Graduation Fashion Show. During her internship she also entered the Huisgenoot / You Gomma-Gomma Unbuntu Fashion Challenge whereby she was selected as nationwide finalist in April 2007.
After her internship she relocated back to her hometown, Klerksdorp where she and a fellow designer started their studio “Anha-K” Couture.
Anel soon became a force to be reckoned with, as she was inundated to design evening gowns for Matric Farewells, High end Functions and local Beauty Pageants including Miss Klerksdorp 2008.
During September 2009, when the new, Miss Klerksdorp, Bonita Griessel was crowned, it was coincidental that she wore and evening dress designed by Anel Botha, that graced the front page of the Local Newspaper.
Another career highlight for Anel, now working under her own label, “Anel Botha Couture”, was when her designs were chosen at the J&B Met in Cape Town in February 2010 as the “Best Themed Coupe” at the Met Fashion Show. Media coverage in the Local Newspaper and national television, on SABC 3 TV program, Top Billing catapulted her success. Anels design was selected by You Magazine as one of the Style Winners of the Night when she dressed Gugu Zuma, Lesedi in Isidingo, for the You Spectacular Awards. Her design was showcased in the You, Huisgenoot and Drum Magazines. Anel has also subsequently dresses Gugu Zuma for the South African Traditional Music Awards where she was one of the presenters on the night.
Anel dressed Palesa Mocuminyani at the recent Vodacom Durban July and received lots of coverage in local Natal Newspapers.
Anel also recently dressed Idol Winner, Andriette Norman, for her final Scene at the recent Skouspel 2010 in Suncity. Her design was featured in a recent edition of the Huisgenoot Skouspel Magazine as ‘Die Mooiste Modes’. In Addition Anel made 2 dresses for the Checkers year end function for Andriette.
Anel talent and design for making beautiful evening where has also allowed her to catch the eye of Supporting Actress, Monique Nortje, of Liefling for Lieflings movie premier in November.
Anel has had much pageant success alongside Models in 2010. She dressed Morgan McBride who won SA Top Model 2010, Miss Uniquely You and…. She dressed Zee Dyson, Surien Liebenberg and Angelique Van Den Burg for the Miss and Mrs Africa Pageant and was awarded Best Evening Wear and Best Traditional Wear for designs worn by Zee and Surien. Zee was crowned Mrs Africa 2010 and Angelique and Surien were crowned 1st Princesses in their respective Categories. Bonita Griessel was also Crowned Miss Matlosana 2010 in one of Anels designs.
In October 2010 Anel was selected to dress all the finalists for the MTN Crowning of Miss Soweto finale in their evening wear.
2011 has been no different to 2010 year for Anel Botha Couture. Her designs have appeared on the Cover of the Get it magazine worn by Riandi Booyens, Miss Africa 2010 as well as the Move magazine worn by Gugu Zuma, Isidingo actress, producer and daughter to state President Jacob Zuma.
Anel entered into the most elegant couple at the J & B Met 2011 with a theme of Larger than Life and was awarded 4th most elegant couple on the day.
Anel was commissioned by the stylist of Huisgenoot Skouspel, Michael Veldsman to make nine garments for the recent Skouspel PLUS in Cape Town where her dresses were worn by Sorina Erusmas (AKA ‘the Flooze’) of the television series, 7e Laan, Grammy Award winning songster, Jennifer Jones and Bianca Le Grange, which was a SA Idols finalist in 2002.
Anel Botha’s success as a fashion label did not stop there. She recently dressed Roxy Louw (world famous surfing champion), Tamara Dey of the group, “Flash Republic” and Kgomotso Matsunyane (host of TV programme, “Late night with Kgomotso” for the annual Volkswagen Awards and launch of the New generation Beetle at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.
At the latest South African Music Awards, Anel had the opportunity of a lifetime when she dressed Palesa Mocuminyani for the red carpet.
Anel has two studios, one in Rivonia and one in Klerksdorp.
She has a team of 4 people who work with her and is known for her quality and design prowess.
