Anél Botha Couture

Anel Botha matriculated from Wesvalia High School in December 2004.  During October 2004, she entered the North West School of Design, Annual “Design your Future” Bursary Competition.  At the Graduation Fashion Show of the North West School of Design, her designs, “Monopoly” and “Playing with Fire” astounded the audience and she walked away with the bursary to study Clothing Design and Technology.  These two designs, received coverage in the local newspapers in the Klerksdorp area.

In March 2006, Anel Botha (then second year student) got selected as nationwide Bridal Africa semi-finalist in the Avant Garde / Evening Wear category.  In the same year, at the 2006 Graduation Fashion Show, she walked away with the honours, “Designer of the Year 2006”.  This accolade gets presented to the student who excelled in all aspects of the Graduation Fashion Show.

After completion of her studies, she went to complete an internship, at the Parys-based designer, Michael Bezuidenhout as one of her prizes that she won on her Graduation Fashion Show.  During her internship she also entered the Huisgenoot / You Gomma-Gomma Ubuntu Fashion Challenge whereby she was selected as nationwide finalist in April 2007. 

After her internship she relocated back to her hometown, Klerksdorp where she and her then business-partner, Jose de Canha (also graduate student from North West School of Design) started their studio, “Anha-K” couture.  

Anel soon became a force to be reckoned with, as she was inundated to design evening gowns for Matric Farewells and local beauty pageants including Miss Klerksdorp 2008. 

During September 2009, when the new, Miss Klerksdorp, Bonita Griessel was crowned, it was coincidental that she wore an evening dress designed by Anel Botha, that graced the front page of the Klerksdorp Record.  

Another career highlight for Anel, now working under her own label, “Anel Botha Couture”, was when her designs was chosen at the J&B Met in Cape Town in February 2010 as the “Best Themed Couple” at the Met.  Media coverage in the local newspaper and national television, on SABC 3 TV program, Top Billing catapulted her success. 

Morgan McBride, current SA Top Model 2010 wore design of Anel Botha when she walked away with the title, of SA Top Model 2010.

Anel continued on the path of fashion success as she now designs for TV actresses, Zikhona Sodlaka and Gugu Zuma, the daughter of State President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma.

In May 2010, Anel opened her second studio in Rivonia.  Anel Botha also employed graduate student from the North West School of Design, Palesa Mayebase as Assistant Designer.

The Rotary Club of Klerksdorp serves the community of Klerksdorp in the North West province of South Africa.

What is Rotary?

The Rotary Club of Klerksdorp was founded in November 1953. It forms part of RI District 9320. The Rotarians of Klerksdorp meet every week (excluding the last week of the month) at Rota Park Hall, du Toit Street, Freemanville on a Friday from 13h00 to 14h00. On the last Thursday of the month they meet at 19h00.
